County HOF class of 2011 introduced

Some of the area’s best high school athletes, coaches and contributors from the past will be honored Nov. 12 as the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame holds its 2011 induction ceremony.

Twenty-three honorees will be recognized during a program that begins at 5:30 with a social hour at the Matterhorn Restaurant in Elkhart.

Tickets for the banquet may be purchased at Concord, Memorial, Goshen and NorthWood high schools, The Elkhart Truth and Middlebury State Bank.

All tickets are $20 and no tickets will be sold at the door. For additional tickets information call John Luse at 848-5951 after 6 p.m.



A.J. MILLER

Northridge High School, 2005

Indiana University

** Earned 4 varsity letters in swimming

**Swimmer – 2005 Indiana Swimmer of the Year

** Won the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay at the IHSAA State Finals in 2005

** Led Raiders to 3 straight sectional championships and 4 consecutive Northern Lakes Conference championships

** At IU, placed 11th in the 200 individual medley in the Big Ten Conference championships; helped Hoosiers to first Big Ten men’s title since 1985

** Earned invitation to U.S. Olympic Trials.

** Basketball – 4-year letterwinner, 814 career points; school-record 88 percent career free throw shooting mark; made 92 percent of free throws in junior season; made 62 consecutive free throws, second all-time in Indiana prep history at the time behind Steve Alford of New Castle; first-team All-Elkhart County in 1987

**Baseball – 4-year starter and letterwinner at second base; carried .392 batting average in senior season; part of school’s first baseball sectional championship team in 1987

** At Eastern Mennonite, was 3-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference; scored 1,745 points (3rd all-time at EMU); school leader in 3-pointers made (294) and 3-point percentage (47 percent); carried 53 percent 3-point shooting percentage (tops nationally at any level)
